Music Info: Jupiter Rising Offers Sneak Peek At New Album

Los Angeles electropop duo Jupiter Rising is releasing a digital extended play on Tuesday, 16 December 2008, featuring two songs from their forthcoming record, "The Quiet Hype". The EP consists of "Tres Cool" and "LA Girls," two ridiculously funky tracks that show off Jupiter Rising's smart hooks and body-moving beats. 

The duo will be releasing two tracks from "The Quiet Hype", "Tres Cool" and "LA Girls" on 16 December 2008 via digital retailers. The two tracks pick up where their first smash hits "Go" and "Electropop" left off with ridiculously funky, catchy dance beats that showcase Spencer's keen sense of production with dense rhythms and synth arrangements. 

 "LA Girls" was featured on MTV's The Hills last month and has been played almost half-million times on MySpace. "Tres Cool" and "Flip My Switch," also from the new album, will be featured on 'The Hills' tonight (Dec 10).

Track Of The Day: Jordin Sparks - This Is My Now

"This Is My Now" is a song written by Jeff Peabody and Scott Krippayne, and is the first single from Jordin Sparks' self-titled, debut album. The top two finalists of the sixth season of American Idol (Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks) sang it during the May 22 and 23 May 2007 finale shows. It was chosen over thousands of other entries in a songwriting contest for fan-written songs to be sung on the show. However, despite the new origins, its slow tempo and inspirational theme is typical of contracted American Idol "winner single" material from prior years.

Carrie Underwood's recording of the song, released on June 14, 2005 in the U.S., debuted at number one on the Canadian Singles Chart and on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. It was certified gold by the RIAA and two times platinum by the CRIA, and it was later included on her debut album, Some Hearts. The B-side is a cover of the Martina McBride song "Independence Day". The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number forty-nine and moved up to forty-six the following week.

Track Of The Day: Kelly Clarkson - A Moment Like This [New Mix]


"A Moment Like This" is a song originally recorded by American singer Kelly Clarkson the first winner of American Idol, released from her multi-platinum debut album, Thankful.

The song was co-written by Jörgen Elofsson and John Reid (of dance act Nightcrawlers) and produced by Stephen Ferrera and Steve Mac. It was written to be the first single for the winner of the first season of American Idol. As a result, the four remaining finalists, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Nikki McKibbin, and Tamyra Gray each recorded a version of the song in case they won. The song was first revealed to the public when Guarini and Clarkson competed in a final showdown while singing this song, along with another track, "Before Your Love". After the American public had voted, Guarini performed the song (and Clarkson performed "Before Your Love") at the final show before the results were revealed. When Clarkson was announced as the winner, she became emotional, and sang the song as her final performance.

"The Winner's Song" is a single by fictional character Geraldine McQueen from Britain's Got the Pop Factor..., a mock talent contest / comedy by British comedian Peter Kay who also plays Geraldine. It was released in Europe 13 October 2008.

The song was co-written by Gary Barlow from Take That and Kay.

The song features two key changes half way through - a popular trick of modern day pop songs - and parodies this style by starting out in A flat major, moving up to B flat major, and then quickly up to B major.

The video to the song was released both as a DVD single and as part of the Peter Kay compilation "Special Kay".

On 7 September 2008, she opened the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards with a live performance of the song.

"Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)" is an electropop song by British music duo Groove Armada with vocals by recording artist Mutya Buena. This song supposed to be with British singer Estelle but Groove Armada picked Mutya Buena was the right person due to her departure from Sugababes in December 2005. The lyrics were interpreted by the media as an insult to Mutya Buena's Sugababes replacement Amelle Berrabah, although Mutya denied such allegations.

Andy Cato, Tim Hutton, Karen Poole and Tom Findlay wrote this pop song and Groove Armada produced this song. Columbia and Sony BMG Records released this song as their official collaboration single via CD single and digital download on 23 July 2007. The song hitted at #8 on the U.K. Singles Chart amd at #1 on the U.K. Dance Chart.

The remix is also known as "Waiting 4", which is a prominently featured lyric. It reached #29 for one week in late November / early December 2007 in the United Kingdom.

Plain White T's - Hey There Delilah

"Hey There Delilah" is the third single released from the band Plain White Ts 2005 album All That We Needed. In June 2007, over two years after the song's release, it became the band's first hit in the United States, eventually reaching the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in July. From July 3, 2007 through July 28, the song was the number one most played song on the radio, and the number one downloaded song on the U.S. iTunes Music Store. After a few days, the version of the song found on Every Second Counts became the number one most downloaded, but was eventually replaced with "See You Again" by Miley Cyrus.

After the song jumped from number 16 to number 6 on the chart it continued to climb one position every week (6-5-4-3-2-1), making it the first chart-topping hit to have this pattern on the Hot 100 in 21 years. It also reached number two in the UK.

The song ended 2007 as the year's 14th biggest-selling single in the UK.

Although "Hey There Delilah" is from the Plain White Ts' third album, All That We Needed, since the single's popularity new versions of the intervening fourth album, Every Second Counts, have "Hey There Delilah" added as a bonus track with a string section augmenting the original recording.

"Dream Catch Me" is a song written by Crispin Hunt, Newton Faulkner and Gordon Mills, produced by Mike Spencer and performed by Faulkner. It is the third single to be released from his debut album Hand Built by Robots. Its highest British chart position was at #7 in August 2007, and its highest peak position in Australia is #5.

This is the first single on the North American release of the album Hand Built by Robots, released on April 29, 2008.

The Hoosiers - Worried About Ray

"Worried About Ray" is the debut single by London pop rock band The Hoosiers, noted for its remarkable resemblance to The Turtles' 1967 hit "Happy Together".

It was the first single to be released from the band's debut album The Trick to Life. It reached #16 on the UK Singles Chart on 24 June 2007 on downloads alone. The single climbed to #6 the following week with CD sales included and the song climbed one place to its peak chart position of #5 the following week. It also reached #4 on the download charts. The music video for the song is inspired by the American special effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen.

The Heart Never Lies" is the thirteenth single from the British pop rock / pop punk band McFly. It was released on October 22, 2007, as a part of the band's All the Greatest Hits album.

Rumours were around that the song was going to originally be called "We Are The Lovers", but then the name "The Heart Never Lies" was officially confirmed on the band's official website and MySpace.

The song debuted at number three in the official UK Singles Chart, being beaten by Take That, "Rule the World"' which charted at number two, and Leona Lewis, "Bleeding Love" which debuted at number one. Although The Heart Never Lies debuted at number three, it sold 9,000 more copies than their last number one hit Baby's Coming Back did in its first week (40,000 against 31,000).

"The Heart Never Lies" also reached number sixteen in Ireland.

"Hold On" is an alternative rock song performed by Scottish singer KT Tunstall. The song was written by Tunstall and produced by Steve Osborne for Tunstall's third album Drastic Fantastic (2007). The song was released as the album's first single on 16 July 2007 in the United States and on 13 August 2007 in Canada. It was released on CD and 7-inch in the United Kingdom on 27 August 2007.

Peter Bjorn And John - Young Folks (Featuring Victoria Bergsman)

"Young Folks" is the first single from Peter Bjorn and John's third album, Writer's Block (released in 2006). The single features Victoria Bergsman of The Concretes as a guest vocalist. The chorus is based on the song, "Rich Folks Hoax" by Rodriguez.

The song first attracted notice on websites such as MySpace and YouTube, and was used in a number of commercials and television shows. Only since mid-2007 has the song earned extensive airplay on American radio, most notably on dance radio outlets like KNHC / Seattle, KNGY / San Francisco and Sirius Satellite's "The Beat".

The song was ranked #5 on Pitchfork Media's "Top 100 Tracks of 2006" list. Pitchfork reviewed the song on 19 July 2006, giving it three out of five stars. The song was also voted #2 in the 2006 NME Track of the Year poll. Planet Sound named this their #2 single of 2006. The song was named the number one song of 2007 according to the iTunes Music Store. Y-Rock On XPN also named the song #1 of 2007.

On Peter Bjorn and John's recent Australian tour, Victoria Bergsman's vocals were performed by Tracyanne Campbell of Camera Obscura. The group performed the song on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on 29 January 2007, and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on 18 May 2007 (the latter with Tonight Show band member Vicki Randle on bongos). On 29 September 2007, the band played "Young Folks", with Victoria Bergsman's vocals, on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross on BBC1.

The single was re-released on 17 September 2007, when it reached number 13 in the UK, beating the original chart position of number 33 in 2006.

The accompanying video was directed by Ted Malmros with animation by Graham Samuels.

The song is featured on the 2007 compilation album, Acoustic 07, the FIFA 08 soundtrack, and was also used in the E3 trailer of Lips, the video game. Gossip Girl also uses this track for its theme.

"Big Girl (You Are Beautiful)" is the fourth single from the debut album Life in Cartoon Motion of singer, Mika. It reached #9 in the UK charts. It was released on 23 July 2007. It was inspired by, and written for the Butterfly Lounge, the first Size Acceptance nightclub in Orange County, California. The club is mentioned specifically in the lyrics "Get yourself to the Butterfly Lounge. Find yourself a big lady”, and is now their theme song.
