Battle Tracks: Kelly Clarkson & Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This

"A Moment Like This" is a song originally recorded by American singer, Kelly Clarkson, the winner of the first season of American Idol. It was released as her debut single along with "Before Your Love" on 17 September 2002 by RCA Records and charted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

In December 2006, the song was recorded by Leona Lewis, the winner of series 3 of The X Factor. The single was rush-released on Wednesday, 20 December 2006 by Syco Records / Sony BMG Records. This is unusual as most new singles are released on a Monday to gain maximum sales for the UK Singles Chart the following Sunday. The late release of "A Moment Like This" was because Leona Lewis was only chosen as the artist on the night of Saturday, 16 December 2006, when the live final was transmitted. The song was available for download after she was announced winner of The UK X Factor. It was charted at #1 on the U.K. Singles Chart.

Celebnews: Kelly Clarkson The Most Successful American Idol Alumns

Carrie Underwood may have sold more albums than Kelly Clarkson, but the original “American Idol” winner is still the most successful, according to Billboard.

Clarkson has sold 10.6 million albums, 15.9 million tracks and has had 4.2 million radio plays, according to Billboard.com, ranking her the top graduate from “Idol.” Underwood has 11.5 million and 13.9 million for album and single sales, respectively. The country singer’s also had 2.4 million radio plays since she won “Idol” in 2005.

The third most successful “Idol” never won the crown and wasn’t even a runner up: It’s Chris Daughtry, who fronts his own band, Daughtry; they have sold 5.7 million albums.

Based on a combination of album sales, track sales, and radio spins, the publication has named original Idol Kelly Clarkson the franchise’s most successful. The “Since You’ve Been Gone” powerhouse has moved 10.6 million albums, garnered 15.9 million track sales, and earned more than 4.2 million radio plays since tasting victory on Idol in 2002.

Here’s how the Top 10 rounded out:

3. Chris Daughtry
4. Jordin Sparks

As a result, the four remaining finalists, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Nikki McKibbin, and Tamyra Gray each recorded a version of the song in case they won. The song was first revealed to the public when Guarini and Clarkson competed in a final showdown while singing this song, along with another track, "Before Your Love".
