Single Of The Day: All Saints - Never Ever

"Never Ever" is a 1998 soul song by British-Canadian girl group All Saints. London Records released CD single for this song on 10 November 1997. This song was written by Shaznay Lewis along with co-writers Robert Jazayeri and Sean Mather. This All Saints' second single also featured on their debut studio album "All Saints".

The music of the song is based upon an overlay of the hymn tune "Amazing Grace" which helps explain why it became so successful. Even though the lyrics are very different and the music sounds different, it is based on a familiar and popular song. The song showcases the group's vocal talent, particularly Nicole Appleton's spoken-word intro which was retained from the original demo recording. "Never Ever" has become the group's most commercially successful single to date, topping the UK Singles Chart on 11 January 1998 after spending several weeks in the top 10. The single has already received multiple award nominations and is rapidly climbing charts internationally, positioning All Saints as serious contenders in the British pop landscape alongside established acts like the Spice Girls.
