"Word Up!" is a single by former member Spice Girls, Melanie Brown. At that time, Melanie Brown used Melanie G as the stage name when this single was released. It was released on 28 June 1999 as CD single and 12" single. It peaked at #14 on the U.K. Singles Chart. This song was a cover from American band Cameo and written by Larry Blackmon and Tomi Jenkins.
The single was also on the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack and was later featured on the Japanese edition of her album "Hot". "Word Up!" sold about 77.996 copies in the United Kingdom, which was the lowest selling solo Spice Girls-related single of the 1990s. The single was produced by Timbaland. There are two version of the official music videos.

Melanie B recalled, "This was the first time I'd even considered doing anything by myself. I was on tour with the Spice Girls when Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott called me up and said 'Melanie, I've got a song for you, will you come and record it with me?' I checked it with the girls and within a month I was out there, I recorded it in a day, did the video, then came back. She's a genius!", later the track available on Melanie Brown's debut studio album "Hot" which was released on 2000.
