Canadian-American, Rufus Wainwright has a song with a pop genre and was released as track from his studio album "Rufus Wainwright" on 19 May 1998 under DreamWorks Records. There is no official singles were released from this album, but "April Fools" was released as official single in United Kingdom and as promo single in United States.
This pop song was written by Rufus Wainwright self and there was official music video to promote the album. It was directed by Sophie Muller, the music video features Rufus Wainwright in Los Angeles amidst a clique of classic opera characters such as Madame Butterfly, attempting to prevent each of them from committing suicide. However, in each instance he arrives too late. The video also contains cameo appearances by No Doubt's Gwen Stefani, a friend of Sophie Muller's, and Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur, a high school acquaintance and former roommate of Rufus Wainwright's. Part of the video was filmed in Gwen Stefani's house.
