Music Info: Solid Gold Release Music Video For "Matter Of Time" Out Now On Green Label Sound

Minneapolis indie-electro outfit Solid Gold today unveil their new music video for their spacey synth-laden single "Matter of Time." Available now as a free download, "Matter of Time" was written, recorded and produced by Solid Gold exclusively for Green Label Sound and is available now at http://www.greenlabelsound.com.

"The video has no direct link to the songs lyrics," says Solid Gold front man, Zachary Coulter. "Instead, we created a visual mood or feeling that marries that of the audio. This asks more of the viewer's imagination."

"Matter of Time" was shot in an historic 1930's art deco apartment in downtown Madison, WI. We follow Solid Gold as they mingle with party-goers at a strange, somewhat surreal gathering in the middle of the night. White walls lit with vibrantly colored lights, rich costumes and silhouettes of fellow revelers create an overall dreamy and mystical feel to the video.

"It was shot like vignette-style set ups, in kind of a moving photograph style," says director John Carlucci. "The band and characters move through these shots with subtle but cryptic interaction to create a sense of impersonal relationship and an air of tension. The footage is beautiful, the band gave me great performances and everyone involved really gave a great effort and did a great job."

Green Label Sound, Mtn Dew's exclusive singles label, is a record label designed to elevate and empower independent artists. To date, Green Label Sound has released singles by Matt and Kim, Holy Ghost!, The Cool Kids, Solid Gold, U-N-I, Flosstradamus and Caroline Polacheck, Solid Gold, Theophilus London and Kuroma. Stay tuned for information about Green Label Sound's official SXSW showcase; Solid Gold are just one of the confirmed performers for the night.

Sneak Attack: Allan Pownall

Contemporary pop is crowded with wannabes, young hopefuls of varying ability who will stop at nothing to achieve the alleged dream-state of fame. In that climate, we should cherish any artist who breaks through, while having higher, purely creative goals in mind.

At 24 years of age, Alan Pownall has the world at his feet, and yet he has reached this favourable position almost in spite of himself. He is not one of those singer-songwriters who regales you with stories of first picking up an acoustic guitar, aged 3, writing his first song in half an hour, and playing at 500 open-mic folk nights before anyone had even heard of him.

Alan makes no bones about the fact that he first tackled the instrument in 2004, and that his path has subsequently been somewhat charmed: after playing only three or four gigs, he toured as a support act for Adele, and now is about to release an album on one of the world’s biggest record labels.

Pownall, though, is sure to be one of 2010s brightest new stars. His song-craft feels so effortless – tracks like ‘Clara,' a Kinksy, easy-strumming message to a tantalizing would-be girlfriend ("you build me up to just let me fall") breeze past so sublimely tunefully — that one might almost imagine its creator never breaks sweat.

That impression, however, is deceptive: these past five years, Alan has taken musicianship and songwriting to the point of obsession, trying on styles for size, changing direction, re-writing lyrics, tweaking melodies, adding and subtracting various instruments from his arrangements, reaching for perfection.

The young South West Londoner was at art school in Milan, when music-making first became a possibility for him. "I lived quite a reclusive existence there", he says, chuckling as he remembers how inadvertently he discovered his own talent.

"My father came over to visit and brought me a guitar. For about six months, I never even picked it up, it just sat there as a perfect accessory to an art student’s flat. It was only when a friend of mine came over and started playing around with it that I thought i'd give it a try. It was just one of those things: the more I did it, the more I liked it".

Circa 2006, Alan quit his course and came home to pursue music. He'd written a handful of songs in a folky idiom, but was vaguely looking to get a band together to perform them with, when he was offered a gig at Nambucca on Holloway Road. The only condition was that he had to play solo, on acoustic guitar. In the intervening three months, he brushed up his mini-repertoire, but his debut was a disaster. "At one point, I stopped to apologise for my guitar-playing – that’s how bad it was".

Alan had only made a couple more live outings, when he met Adele at the Troubadour. "I sheepishly said to her, you can check out a couple of my songs on MySpace. Within a couple of weeks, I was in her Top Friends. Two weeks after that, I was on holiday, and I got a message from her saying, Do you want to support me on my first UK tour?"

"I was excited at the prospect – and I had to do it, I wasn’t going to get the opportunity again – but at the back of my mind, I knew I wasn't ready. I only really had four songs to my name, which included ‘Colourful Day,' and three others which I don’t really do anymore. I was writing songs on the road. There were some gigs, where I was reading the lyrics off a piece of paper. It was so unprofessional". He shudders. "I definitely remember coming off that tour feeling a little bit broken, but it was all part of getting there".

Undaunted, Alan used his trial-by-fire as a motivation to reappraise what he was doing with his music. In the meantime, he landed a publishing deal, and moved out of his family home to share a flat with Jay Jay Pistolet, and Mumford & Sons. He played gigs with numerous rising young acts, including Florence & The Machine, Jack Penate, Noah & The Whale, Laura Marling and Kid Harpoon. After signing up with Mercury Records, he went out on his second tour, supporting Mr. Hudson, and was soon ready to start work on his album.

Alan had been feeling increasingly limited by the acoustic format, and his latest batch of songs were crying out for further arrangements, with a full band. "I'd been living in a very folky environment, and I wanted to do something else. I didn't want to be another ‘one man and his guitar’: I found it uninspiring. The same chords, the same formula, and the pursuit is really just the lyrics. I like folk music, I just don't feel there's much more to offer it".

Alan’s voice, indeed, dominates the record, at once antique, ageless and immediate, as he croons about the romantic entanglements in his lyrics. He says that, with his later batch of songs, he sought to write more openly, amalgamating experiences in the service of a compelling song. "I’ve never met a girl called Clara", he says, "she’s made up of a number of people I’ve met".

On top of Alan's easy-rolling guitar style, his songs are fleshed out by a small, unfussy rhythm combo, plus occasional embellishments, such as violin (from Noah & The Whale’s Tom Hobden), brass or twinkly percussive instruments. "I wanted the album to be like a jazz festival in the 1940s in the south of France, but set in some dingy bar on a rainy day – like, it would have all those picturesque elements, but slightly twisted as well".

There isn't a single track aboard, which isn't 100% irresistible, touched by magic. The whole thing tells the story of a quick-flowering natural talent, from the mournful folky beginnings of ‘Colourful Day’, right up to the fully orchestrated present. Mr Pownall himself is still busy, meanwhile, writing a song per day, hoping to squeeze a couple more brand new tunes on there, and setting his sights on Album No. 2.

More imminently, he's to top the bill at Music Week’s Unearthed concert in the Elgar Room at the Royal Albert Hall, and continues a residency at Puregroove Record Shop in Spitalfields. Puregroove's in-house label.

Celebnews: Kara DioGuardi Shows Her Bikini For Maxim

American Idol's Kara DioGuardi shows her hot bikini body for Maxim mag. American Idol judge and singer / songwriter, Kara DioGuardi recently revealed her very hot and smokin bikini body in a Maxim photo shoot. According to Zap2it, she gave an interview to Maxim magazine and posed for a sexy pictorial to go along with it. In the interview, she talked mostly about judging "American Idol", and what type of artists she looks for. When asked if she would miss Simon when he leaves, she said, "I have no idea. All I can say is the guy can do things not many folks can get away with, and people like when someone is true to himself".

She also said she missed Paula Abdul during the auditions. She stated, "During the auditions, yeah, I missed her. She was so nurturing, and I try to have some of that in my critiques. I wouldn’t say I have the maternal instinct that she had, though. I'm a little bit more New York, a little more hard-edge". She also really likes that Ellen Degeneres has joined the show. She said, "I was like, "Rock on!" Are you kidding? The thing with Ellen I don’t think everybody understands is that she's a huge music lover. That's what you need to be on Idol". Album Review: Erik Grönwall - Erik Grönwall

Erik Grönwall is the debut self-titled album of Erik Grönwall, winner of the Swedish singing television competition Idol 2009. It entered the Swedish Albums Chart straight #1 staying there for 4 weeks.

Tracklisting:
01. Higher
02. Over You
03. Run To The Hills
04. The Show Must Go On
05. Hey Jude
06. Heaven
07. Shout It Out Loud
08. Leave A Light On For Me
09. My Life Would Suck Without You
10. Bodies
11. Is It True
12. 18 And Life

Here are some of my reviews track by track.

01. Higher
“Higher” is a pop song, the tune is slow and very poppish. This is also Erik’s winner song and released as his first debut single on 11 December 2009 and reached #1 on Swedish Singles Chart. The song is written by Pär Westerlund and Joakim Olovsson. (8/10)

02. Over You
“Over You” is a cover song from Daughtry of American Idol alumn. Erik bring this song with pop rock tunes. He bring great emotion on this song but too bad, I still can feel Daughtry influence is very strong, maybe because of this song is Daughtry trademark. This song is written by Daughtry and Howes. (8/10)

03. Run To The Hills
“Run To The Hills” is a song with pop power genre. Yes this is one of the best Erik’s song. I can feel the hard rock influence from this song. I know this song is covered from Iron Maiden, that’s why I can feel heavy metal and hard rock genres, even though this song feels like power pop for me. This song is written by Steve Harris. Anyway, Erik’s voice sounds like Adam Lamber the runner-up of American Idol 2009 on this song. (9/10)

04. The Show Must Go On
“The Show Must Go On”, Pop influence is so strong on this song. Yup yup yop another cover from biggest band, Queen. Queen and David Richards wrote this US #2 on US Singles Chart. Many cover from many artists and Erik doing great with this song. (8/10)

05. Hey Jude
“Hey Jude”, Paul McCartney and John Lennon must be honour since they wrote this song for their The Beatles, and Erik did it fabolous job to cover this song for his debut album. Erik’s version is more poppish but not bad. After hear 5 tracks from this album I noticed that he is multitalented and can sing many genres of song, wow. (8/10)

06. Heaven
Another phenomenal covered song. Track 6 is covered from power ballad of Bryan Adams’ Heaven. Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance wrote this song and Erik covered with nice. You can hear Erik’s voice brought this song to be a live, of course with his own style. (8/10)

07. Shout It Loud
What can I say about this song, originally hard rock genre from smashing band, Kiss. Erik covered their “Shout It Loud” and sounds so pop with happy tune. I like it even tho this is not his best track, but it is a fun song. Shout It Loud… This song is written by Bob Ezrin, Paul Stanley and Genne Simmons. (7/10)

08. Leave A Light On For Me
Wow… Erik covered from pop singer too, this time he tried with Belinda Carlisle famous single “Leave A Light On”. I can say many comments, just love song with happy beat and very poppish with Erik amazing voice. Darling… leave a light on for me… Thanks to Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley to wrote this song. (7/10)

09. My Life Would Suck Without You
Even tho Kelly Clarkson with this song “My Life Would Suck Without You” can reaching #1 on almost every countries such as US her own country on US Billboard Hot 100, but Erik’s version is awesome too. I can say Erik is male version of Kelly Clarkson. Poppish but rock. Doesn’t it sounds sexy? Actually this is my favorite song on this album. This song is made by famous Max Martin along with Dr. Luke and Calude Kelly. Gosh… I repeated this song over and over on my stereo car. Rock on!!! (10/10)

10. Bodies
“Bodies” yes it is Robbie Williams’ #1 Swedish Singles Chart. Pop rock and synth pop can heared very clear on this song. This song is still new and hot and released as single on 2009 by Robbie. It is so hard to make famous song to be different but still awesome to be singing. Erik did awesome job on this song. Robbie Williams, Brandon Christy and Craig Russon could be proud coz Erik’s voice fits this song. (7/10)

11. Is It True
Another famous hot single from Icelandic singer, Yohanna. Erik did cover her #2 singles on Swedish Singles Chart. Just like he did on Kelly Clarkson song, Erik made fabolous work to this soft rock song. We can hear Yohanna song but this is male version and this is Erik Grönwall version. Very alternative pop song. (8/10)

12. 18 And Life
The last song from this album is taken from Skid Row #4 US Billboard Hot 100 “18 And Life”. This heavy metal song is written by Rachel Bolan and Dave Sabo. Erik Grönwall can sing this song with his own attitude, you can hear his voice with high pitch but sounds good not annoying. (7/10)

After hear full one album from Erik Grönwall, I can say he is so multitalented singer, because he can sing many genres with nice. Alright, some songs reminds me with Adam Lambert from American Idol. They should do collaboration. I wonder what it would be. This album is released by Columbia / Sony Music on December 2009 and mostly of the genres of the songs are pop, so we can say this is pop albums.

New Music Video: Semi Precious Weapons - Semi Precious Weapons

Watch the world premiere video for Semi Precious Weapons' single "Semi Precious Weapons" off their Geffen debut You Love You out this spring. Shot at NYC's Webster Hall last month, the video is a glimpse into the filthy and glamorous world of a band set to distort everything you think you know about rock 'n roll. Ditch the dustpan and save the bleach for your hair, because you can't fight the dirt at this party!

Frontman Justin Tranter says of the video:

“We really really fucking really wanted to make a REAL NYC party video. Every band, pop star, guitar player, and girl group has made a quote unquote Party Video. But we wanted ours to be real. So we asked DJ Jess if we could take over his "Trash" party downstairs at Webster Hall since we had played that party so many times before. And then we had our actual bff's and true fans fill the place. Lady Starlight, Darian Darling, Breedlove, Knehans, The Jocelyn, Mz Eddy, Stormy Leather and obviously us, Semi Precious Weapons all hung out, changed outfits, and lived life to create the best party video of all time. Champagne was spit, sex was had, filthy glaMOUR was created and The Precious Empire reigned supreme to create our dream rockNRoll party video.”

The single is available on iTunes now as part of a 3 song EP preview of You Love You, along with "Magnetic Baby" and "Put a Diamond in It." SPW heads overseas this month to continue greasing up crowds worldwide as the opening act on Lady Gaga's Monster Ball tour, a slot that earned SPW critical acclaim for their outrageous and energetic performances throughout its US leg.

Semi Precious Weapons is Justin Tranter (vocals), Dan Crean (drums), Cole Whittle (bass), and Stevy Pyne (guitar).

"Raymond V. Raymond" is forthcoming album from American R&B singer, Usher. The album features production from Jermaine Dupri amongst others including The Runners, T-Pain, Polow da Don, Ne-Yo, Anthony Hamilton, The Neptunes, Adam Levine, and RedOne, and Tricky Stewart.

Usher, whose private life has been shaken by his filing of divorce from Tameka Foster, told People Magazine that the album will be, "racy, risky and edgy, and sometimes about personal experiences".
